I heard a brilliant song of the W.W. Wren above the lawn, a House Wren, mar Wildwood, and Black-throated Gray Warblers in three places in the San Joaquin Valley and in one above Saratoga - (No grosbeaks or Olive-sided Flycatcher) The Vireo Wren was not seen or heard - probably gave up the box because the hole is so small. Beautiful weather. Wisteria, Lupine (animal), nemophila, arabis in blooms Very dry. A Clipping Sparrow singing below Canyon Rd., April 17. Went to Vallejo Reservoir and Sears Point Cut-off. Very few birds at the reservoir, mostly redwings, Coots and Ruddy Ducks. Twice I heard what I think was a Virginia Rail but could not see it. Out in the distance I saw a Buffle-head Duck. Other birds seen there: Meadowlarks, Pipits, Anna's Allen Hummers (feeding on Eucalyptus blossoms), Flicker, White crowns (no songs - Seen by Mrs. Coale) Song Sparrow, Savannah Sparrows, Linnets, Violet green Swallows, Comorants (Farallone), Tule Wren, Marsh 14 avocets, Gulls (sp?) Brown Blackbirds most active in Eucalyptus trees, Redwings in Tules. After lunch we returned to Vallejo when tides was high and found a great abundance of waders, resting on little islets: Bib Plow, Willets, Long-billed Curlew (40+), Niederian (2), Dowitchers (100s), Wilson Snipe (1); also one Ann Egret and one Snowy - many Bonaparte Gulls with black heads,
