We stopped at Wet View Marsh as the tide
was just right for best observations.
Birds were scattered all over the mud as
far as we could see and the light was
excellent. There were many more Western
Sandpipers than at any previous time
this winter far outnumbering the Least. I
could find no Redbacks. Possibly they were
out where the water was deeper. Dowitchers
were abundant, more abundant
and more scattered than heretofore.
Both Long-billed and Hudsonian were
present - I could find only a few Hudsonian (3 or 4) but 18-12 Long-bills near
the roadway - Godwits were abundant!
also Willets and Bb. Clover. A group
of 4 Yellowlegs flew in together in a
tumble and alighted near a willet.
They all looked smaller than the willet.
After a few minutes of feeding they
all flew away together. Later I saw
two other Yellowlegs, both of which looked
larger than Willets near by. The threw
their heads back more frequently than the
smaller ones, I think. There were
many scattered Anocets all over the marsh
as far as I could see. Ducks were
more abundant than previously. Spoon-
bills were numerous; many of the females
showed bills almost as orange as feet.
Canvasbacks (20-30), Buteails (5+); Reddies 8.
