Sunday
Jan.22, Berkeley. I was awakened by the song of
a thrasher. Then the Hermit Thrush began
its chikets, chucking and thin & Song
Sparrow began to sing. In the afternoon
J. and I walked up through Hamilton
Campus (Sunny Gulch) to the top of the hill.
On the usual side ravine I found a
Western Quailcatcher, Twice I heard the
explosive whistle of an Anna Hummingbird.
There were two flocks of Crowned Sparrows,
and a thrasher was perched in the top
of a dying Cypress tree on the boundary
of the Mann Place, singing loudly.
Warme sunshine.

to sing or call. Heard Vireos (a pair) singing
after breakfast.
