1934
April 27 - Oak Springs Courtin. Several Grouse
were singing (?), and several House Wrens.
Linnets were building a nest in a very small
slender Italian Cypress. Saw also: Swain, Flickers, Cal.
and Coast jays. Titmouse, Virgin Wren, Lutecent Warbler
(sang on electric wire continuously), Warbling Vireo,
Black Phoebe, Spotted Towhee, Song Sparrows, W. Bluebirds,
G.b. Goldspich.
Heard a Sharp-shinned
Hawk calling near the house (Berkeley).
April 28. Left Berkeley 1:30 p.m. drove via Walnut Creek.
Both - west
Saw to Boulder Creek - At Mission Bridge Swallows
were flying low over water, dipping bills into water.
Yellowthroat singing. Reached Boulder Creek 5 p.m.
Chilly breeze, partly cloudy.
April 29. Brilliant sunny morning. Birds heard: Wart
W.Flycatcher, Chickadee, Warbling and Cassia Vireo,
Lutecent, Pileated and Black-throated Gray Warblers.
(Blue-sided Flycatcher (first time), R.b. Thrush (first
Time), Kingfisher, Grosbeak, Song Sparrows, Spotted
and Brown Towhees. No Yellow Warblers yet. Our
way to Saratoga - heard one Yellow Warbler, one
Black-throated Gray (?), one Coppersound
one Wood Pewee. Left cottage 1:30 p.m. reached
37 Nusswood 4:15 p.m.
April 30. Rain in evening.
May 1. Rain. Birds have been very scarce near
home since April 18. Winter visitants gone and
summer visitants show about coming - . No signs
of nests near house except Blue jays nest (no cup)
At dawn I heard in distance Song Sparrows, Spotted
