October - 1920. Mill Valley. They picked at each other around the trunks. Watched them 15 minutes when one (an adult male) fl ew away. The whole attitude suggested an altercation. Oct. 8. Many fox sp. singing - Red-breasted Sapsucker seen in West Berkeley. Oct. 9. Went to Mill Valley in afternoon to spend a couple and with Mr. and Mrs. Kibbe. Rained most of night. Oct. 10. Mill Valley. Rained till 11 A.M. Walked 11:30 to 2 P.M. There were beautiful views of the mountain through the breaking clouds. Birds seen were - Buzzard, Cal. Jay, Coast Jay, Flicker, 1 Brown Thrasher, many Spurred Thrush, 2 Golden-crowned sp., 2 Fox sp., many Pine Siskins, Green-backed Goldfinch, Jameson's (very pink), Hutton Vireo, one Warbler (very yellow but could not identify) Ruby-crowned Kite (one heard), Bushtits and Hermit Thrush. Jays, Sp. Thrushes and Wren-tits and Bushtits seemed to be feeding on winged ants in the road. Returned to Berkeley in late afternoon. Oct. 11. Rained at night. Oct. 13 - Allen Hummer in Mrs. Perkins garden ? Cold, crisp morning. Warm middle of day -
