Jan.
Jan. 9. Went to Mrs. Gregson's school. A Marsh
Hawk flew over. This alarmed a flock
of Cross Bills in the high pine trees. Saw
many cross bills in flight but could not
make a positive identification when I
reached home one of the children tele-
phoned that she had seen one male
bird quite close and it showed no white
on the wing.
P.M. With help of Mr. White at the museum
I skinned and stuffed my first bird - a
Red-shafted Flicker.
Jan. 10. House Wren still on W. slope of hill.

on the shore two Green-winged Teal. Also

Robins, Meadow Larks and Brewer Black.
