March 29. Clear after ten days of intermittent rains and chilly weather white frost. Townsend Warblers singing. Ruby-crowned Kinglets have been singing pretty during past week. A pair of Brown Thrushes came to table together yesterday and today. 7 & Quail on coos at 8:30 a.m. All flew at alarm note of Brown Thrush. Apr. 29. Heard Pileated Warbler nest. Apr. 2. Quail come often to table. Many Ind. Sp. Apr. 5. 2 Pileated Warblers heard. W. thatcatcher and Rufous-crowned Sparrow in Sunny Dutch. Titmouse sat on eggs while I looked into leaves. Apr. 6. Dove 15 lbs. Alton and duck. Very list. Stopped a few minutes at Bannenberg Ponds dry - only one small patch of yellow marsh flowers. Poppies on dyke brilliant and very abundant. Man at Club House told me there were more ponds farther over where there had been crocodiles and storks. Only birds 9 and were meadow Larks. Black Birds (Br. and Red-winged, Linnet). At Blue Heron, Gulls and Coots. Near Alvarado there were Cliff Swallows and near Alvarado many phaenants.
