Aug. 27, 28. Thunder showers. Aug. 30. 9:30 at fountain; 2 song sparrows, Spotted 2 San Francisco Torches, 1 Wren lit and 1 Purset- backed Thrush. 1 S.F. Torcher (not banded) and 1 Song Sp. (banded) on feeding table. Went to S.F. by Ky Route. Many Sandpipers and Bonaparte Gulls and a few phalaropes. Also live Heermann Gulls followed the boat. 1 heads gray. Sept. 7. Large Hawk flew over, long narrow tail. No colors except gray visible. Several flaps then soar, in direct line. Probably Coopers. Sept. 8. Thrashers singing every morning. In free plumage. Brown Torchers still moulting. Titmouse came to nesting box, alighted on roof and gave calls they give near nest. Second time this week. Wren also to hole and looked in. Dwail very numerous and calling. Sept. 14. Heard Kingfisher over Dimming pool. " 16. Several dwail flew from feeding table when I went out on porch. Must be same ones that fed there last year. Titmouse on box again.
