Boulder CV 1. Heard Hermit Thrush in Canyon back of Brookdale Hotel. Heard one Olive-sided Flycatcher near Brookdale Station. June 11. W. Flycatcher getting pink feet. June 10. Black Phoebes rare flown. Rain. June 16. Made arrangements to give bird lessons to Boy Scouts, Troop 38, in Camp up San Lorenzo River. Saw young Br. Towhee; was perched in tree over trail, gripping very loud. When it saw me it stopped and kept perfectly quiet for five minutes or more. Then began to call more quietly. Tail feathers less than 1 in. 17. Brown Towhees in nest on clothes line hatched. Clear. 18. Cloudy. Gave lessons to Boy Scouts, Ten birds: (Olive sided) Flycatcher, Allen (of summer), Ash-throated Flycatcher (year), Purple Finch, Green-backed Goldfinch, Violet-green Swallow, Wren-tit, Coast Jay, Russet-backed Thrush and St. Pius Juneo. B. M. James came down from Berkeley with Ford bringing Mr. C. H. Whitman (Rulgero Coll.) within 19. Went to Santa Cruz. Cloudy, misting at times. 20. Cloudy to Clear. Walked with Mr. Whitman to Cherry orchard on Ben Lamond road. Heard Tangar singing. Also Hermit Thrush. Bill W. feeding young. P.M. Took Mr. Whitman to Mt. Herman then drove to Santa Cruz - Clearer. 21. Cloudy. Rain at Nurdy. Painted auto. 22. Saw boys, second lesson. Chickadee, Brown Towhee, Wrebling Vires, Turkey Buzzard, etc. rare.
