Boulder Cr. June 1. Went to Boulder Creek to stay 2 months in Mrs. Johnson's cottage. June 2. Cleaning Cottage. Heard Towheak, Purple Finch, Chickadees, Junco's, Chipping Sparrow, Yellow Warbler, Paleolated Warbler, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Swain-backed Thrush. At noon saw Allen's hummingbird. At river saw W. Belted Kingfisher and heard Warbling Vireo and a Woodpecker. Nest of Cat. Towhee 2 eggs. June 6. Have seen the usual birds except the Olive-sided Flycatcher which is missing in this neighborhood. The Water Ouzel is usually about the Barker bridge. Tried to take a census of the Barker woods at 6 a.m., but very few birds were singing as it was a cloudy morning. More birds in the orchard. Two Willow Woodpeckers in the willow trees near the bridge. Black Phoebe's nest over front door of the Barker Cottage contained young almost grown. June 7. Went to see Mrs. Gump at Mrs. Allis's cottage in Brookdale. She showed me a W. Flycatcher nest built in a hole in the bank above trail. Contained 4 down young.
