Los Banos
A few Farallone Cormorants flew over.
Several miniature Black-crowned Night herons
flushed from the tules. We returned about
11 a.m. to machine and drove on past a
Large deep marsh on the right where
there were many Glossy Ibis. Saw also
an Anthony Green Heron and more it.
Blue Herons, some W. Crows, Coots, more
Meadow Larks, Orioles, Blackbirds, Song Sparrow
Art. Kingbirds, Shrikes. At noon we reached
the San Joaquin River where we had picnic
lunch. Mosquitoes were terrible! At this
stop we found Cliff Swallows nesting under
the bridge, five Double nests, two of them in
clumps of reedtules, a W. Crow nest and
a Marsh Hawk's nest in alve in the water.
A pair of Shrikes were feeding green birds
in the trees, Kingbirds were everywhere. Two
or three Longtails Chats could be heard at
our tree. Also Quail, Mourning Doves, Nuttall
Woodpecker, Linnets, Willows Goldfinch, Bushtits,
Doug Sparrow, Sacramento Towhee, Warbling Vireo
(heard only), Yellow Warbler, W. Yellowthroat.
San Joaquin Wren, Green-b. Goldfinch in Tulocks
