May 3. Went to Lafayette: Fons Quail, Red-t. Hawk, Br. Black bird, Meadowlark, Bullock's Oriole, Wood Pewee, W. Flycatcher, Mourning Dove, Allen Hummingbird, Anna X, Black Phoebe (nest but no eggs), Willow & Calif. Woodpeckers, Calif. Jay, Shrike, Swallow (?) over Lake Temescal, Linnitt, Willow Green-backed & Lawrence Goldfinch (abundant), Black-headed Grosbeak, Song Sparrow, Calif. and S. F. Towhees, Eng. Sparrows, Chipping Sparrow, Slender-billed Nuthatch, Tolema Warbler (intuit?), Yellow W., Pileolated Warbler, Lutescent W., Lazuli Bunting (abundant), House Wren (abundant) Wren-tit, W. Bluebird, Flicker, Titmouse, Warbling Vireo (abundant). Found no swal- lora, Ash-thr. Flycatcher or Chats and only one privet. Warm. Bush-tits out of my Yarrow thorn in hills. May 5. Titmice still feeding young. Beautiful day. May 6. Robin & Creeper in Faculty Glade. May 8. Titmice seen in early morning near box, but not during day. Busert backed Thrush singing in evening. Very warm. May 9. Young Blue Jay just out of nest. May 11. A family of young quail (2 days old?) were caught in the gutter on Momwood Road. The parents went up the bank calling but the young could not get out of the
