Apr.26. Went with ladies to Lake Merced. On bay were
usual gulls - Western and Bonaparte most prominent.
Forster Terns and Common Terns, White-ringed & Duf Scoter.
At the lake: Western Grebe (1), Eared Grebe (2) Pied-billed
Grebe (1), Loon (1), Bonaparte Gull, other gulls not iden-
tified, Farallone Cormorant, Mallard (1), Ruddy Duck,
Bittern (seen several times), Yel. Blue Heron (1), Black - or.
Night Heron (1pr. in Cypress tree), Coots, Quail (heard)
Belted Kingfisher (1), Allen Hummingbirds (about 200) nest
in Cypress tree w. 2 eggs, Black Phoebe, W. Flycatcher,
Blackbirds (2) (Sp?), in tules, Purple Finch, House
Finch, Willow Goldfinch, Greenb. Goldfinch, Pintail
Dickins, St. Louis Juncos, S.C. Long Ep., Swallow (Sp?)
(Butler Vireo (heard), Yellow Warbler (abundant),
Pacific Yellowthroat (many), Pileated W.(several)
Vigors Wren, Tule Wren (nest), Calif. Chickadee,
Bush Tits (nest in Eucalyptus tree in hanging branches)
Russet-backed Thrush,
On way home, located Bush Tits nest in low back
oak tree on right of way - Young calling faintly.
Apr.27. W. Flycatcher flew on to last years nest
under porch. Titmouse feeding young which
Can be heard calling: Coel.
Apr.28. Cool, foggy.
Apr.29. Cooper Club trip to Golden Gate Park - The
pleasant weather. Black Phoebe.
Usual birds, nests of Bush Tits & Nuttall Sp., Baby Coots.
