April 1. Trapped White-throated Sparrow and read
its number - 51978. Also banded a
S.F. Thrasher, 55039. Rain. There is still
up an unbanded Brown Thrasher feeding at my
table. I had supposed there were only two
and that both were banded.
R.C. Knights and Townsend Warblers still here.
Latter singing. A Thrasher on the feeding
table "frage" when Blue Jay gave
its alarm note.
Apr. 2. Rain a.m. White-throated Sparrow still
about. Cock quail on table. Hermit Thrush.
Apr. 3. Clear, crisp. White-throated Sparrow
here. Townsend Warblers in full song.
For sparrows sing often but not in
full tones. 9 a.m. Four quail (2 male,
2 female) on table with Thrasher and
Brown Thrasher. Thrasher flew. Thrasher picked
one quail in thight without effect. Then
began tackling others quickly driving 3
of them off, also leaving himself.
9:15 4 female quail + eating Canary seed.
Apr. 4. Rain, rain. Not cold. Many birds.
White-throated Sparrow came to table once.
Apr. 5. Rain. R.C. Knights singing. Hermit Thrush
Calling. Pair of quail on table.
