Mar. 27. Caught lone canary - Heard House Wren.
Went with Mrs. Saunders Children to Pleasanton-Sanol in search of Blue Heron colony. Found theirs N. of Hearst Estate.
4 nests in our bite - 5 in other. Birds on nests and flying about. Saw also
Kingfisher, Black Phoebe, Willow Woodpeckers
Swallows (building under eaves at Danville)
Morning Doves, Shrike, Dic. Sparrows,
Audubon Warblers, Varied Thrushes.
Three (large) dark birds cleaning thru' trees giving note like that of W. Martin -
Black Phoebe building. Blue Herons seemed to be brooding. Nests very high
in tops of sycamore trees.
Mar. 28. Heard a Warbling Vireo singing near
the U.C. dairy. Warm.
Mar. 29. Fog in morning. Townsend Warblers singing.
James reported Great Horned Owls in the night.
One was on the sleeping porch, the other
farther away. Luscinia Warblers at the
pool. Singing freely.
March 30. Cooler. Heard R.C. Kinglet. June 51981
Showers in night.
March 31. Banded Fox Sp. 55037, Br. Towhee 56038.
White Throated Sparrow (banded) seen again after two
weeks absence. Did not succeed in trapping it.
