alarm notes when I was getting dinner last night.
James investigated but did not locate cause of trouble
Saw Clarke Nutatches in top of Tamaracks near
by, eating nuts out of cones apparently -
July 29. Went to chain of lakes, Angeline, Aglalante
Saw the usual birds, one gnu's nest under over-
hanging rocks, contained 3 naked young, 1 egg-
Heard Mew (Parkman?), Kingfisher.
July 31. Found Williamson Sapsucker on horizontal
branch of fir tree which was riddled with holes
and had only a few green needles left. Chipmunk
ran out on branch toward Saps, but retreated.
Nutatches on same tree - Slender-billed, I think,
Black-headed Grosbeak flew into camp trees, called
one later,
and sang. James heard, must be spreading
out from breeding grounds lower down.
Perhaps migrate east of ridge. Clarke Nut. bark
flew about in the trees. Ceanalaveras Warblers
very abundant in many flocks (Ready for migra-
tion?) Aug 1. Partly cloudy. Togs walk thru woods
