Summit, July, (1917).
twittering when fed. Saw two little birds on edge
of nest yesterday and today one was on branch,
new nest when parent bird arrived.
Hans has to watch several days to get bird in
right light to feel sure of identification.
July 26. Both little Pine Grosbeaks on branches
new nest calling softly. Heard male sing.
Song similar to that of Purple Finch but
richer and sweeter.
A Mt. Whiter Sp. has adopted us, picking up
Crumbs about the camp. Came under table
when James was writing at the table.
July 27. Little juncos watched in nest near camp.
Nest on ground under pine branch. Calliope
Hummer came to bouquet of Alpine Wilds on
table while we were eating lunch - not more
than 12 in from each of us -
July 28. Pine Grosbeak in top of tree. Studied Cassin's
P. Finch & family of Mt. Bluebirds - Sandpiper, Gold
Little juncos gone, one dead left in nest. Heard
