293 English Sparrows. "Observations were begun at the Hunting Reservation in October 1937. English Sparrows were first detected when a pair appeared early in April 1939. Banding of these individuals in an area so sparsely settled as this mountain range may produce some information concerning distributional behavior at the margin of the range of the species"-J.M. Riddle. Golden-crowned Sparrows F119941 and 38-143616. Both killed at same time in same traps on Oct. 28'39 by a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I shot the hawk. He flew to the traps some time (about 2 hours) later, although I had removed both birds Golden-crowned Sparrow 38-143665. Reddish feathers on back of head, and in the two head stripes. Golden-crowned Sparrow 38-143678. Reddish feathers on back of head. Golden-crowned Sparrow repeated 1/5/1940 # 38-143636. Caught in Government Sparrow traps, on top my wood shed; in same place an House Wren #97530 was trapped. See Page 291. Jan. 14 1940. Killed in inner compartment of a government Sparrow trap, with F119988, by a Sparrow Hawk, #323239. A 444858. 920. 34-119254 and 34-134755 killed by same hawk Jan. 18 '40 in inner compartment of same trap.
