Lehner P. 1964 71 Sept. 27 got the plant collection separated into two sections; one to be sent off and one to serve as an indicator of what has been collected; finished packing in preparation for flight to Raro tomorrow; ran routine checks. Sept. 28 up at 6:30 checked mice; called MATS to check on reservations for Willie and myself; got confirmation at 10:15 and took VP to Johnston at 11:00; got lunch at H+N, ran errands to get all squared away for a boarding pass; departed Johnston via MATS C-118 at 1:25 P.M.; arrived at Hickam at 3:45 P.M.; Willie could not get out that night and there were no cars at the Hawaiian King to pick us up so we caught a taxi to the same hotel; we encountered quite a crowd of project personnel when we reached the hotel; about 14 of us there; we got something to eat then began a night of room parties (Judy + her two tahitian friends), Forbidden City, and factory Volkswagen Microbus; earlier I rented a red Ford Mustang which I threw into reverse on numerous occasions thinking it was standard; each time someone sprayed teeth, hair and eyes all over the dashboard; roomed with Alan Anderson.
