Aug. 30 Cam checked once this morning;
I arose (almost from the dead) feeling in
good shape and ran through a little bookwork
and data organizing; I ran the plots in the
P.M.; at 11 P.M. we went to "the other end"
to try to let blood from Noddies; we
only managed to catch about 15; they either
got up and fly off way ahead of the light
beam or they weren't there at all; most
that I could see I was able to walk
right over and pick up - many were on ~
Eggs or had chicks; they were also able
to fly-climb out of the double height
wire corral - bending the top in helped some;
they give 5cc. of blood with difficulty and
are extremely weak afterwards - Sooties are
much more capable blood donors; we tried
taking 6cc/bird and calling it a sample -
we'll see how much serum it provides; however,
this just about killed the bird - we then
took 4.5 cc from each of two birds - worked
much better; also bled one male frigate; the
young Frigates appear to go through a
stage when the head and neck (formerly white)
becomes reddish-brown.
