Aug. 29 ran routine checks; Sooties still leaving
in small numbers; shorebirds picking up in
numbers - still mostly Golden Plover and
Ruddy Turnstones; about 40 Navy personnel
came over for a cookout about 1:00; the
C.O. broke out 8 cases of beer for a
starter - a lot of eating, drinking and
rabble-rousing; I bet Willie I could pick
him up over my shoulders, but when I tried
both his shirt and pants tore off, so
he spent the rest of the beer blast in
his drawers; somehow I wrenched my
left shoulder again, bruised my left foot,
burned my right cheek with a cigar (that's
a tough trick), and scraped my right
knee - Cam made the nightly rounds, but
we put off blood letting and banding.
