Podilymbus podiceps. Podilymbus podiceps Breeding in N. Maine. Among some eggs lately sent me by Alva Coolidge was one of the Pied-billed Grebe accom- pained by the head of the (adult) parent bird. Of this egg Coolidge writes: "Found in the "Cranberry Pond" near Richardson Lake by Steve Morse who shot the bird on the nest & thus broke all the eggs but one". The egg sent me was unfortunately broken shortly after its receipt. Main Richardson Lake, Maine July 22 - 1951 Podilymbus podiceps Breeding in Maine. Alva Coolidge tells me that he found several pairs of these Grebes breeding during the past season in small ponds near Richardson lake. The old birds were accompanied by large broods & young were seen in Richardson Pond & the Cranberry Pond bog. Steve Morse who found the eggs of this bird in 1952 tells me that the nest was built on lily pads where the water was about eight inches Maine, Maine 1953 21
