Sides of rostrum head to the eyes very light gray: Edge of upper lips just above balen [illegible] flesh pink (as usual) for a band about 3" wide which extends for its whole length of the rostrum from the post- ear end of balen. Very little gray on lips above. Fins Dark above with only a few white flecks - below has considerably white scattered over it in flecks, spots & circles. White post. edge. Flukes Dark above below with but little white, in circles & spots; white post- edge. Baloon Bristles of post. 3/4 dark gray to ant. 1/4 light yellowish. The bristles of this whale are its darkest I have ever seen. Navel About 2 1/2 feet anterior to neth.; appears as a roughly circular scar somewhat raised & form a low swelling, not white as is so frequently the case with other whales. Cremations This whale had 14 cremations on its back - more than any other specimen I have seen. They began about two feet from its flukes described as low rounded humps, becoming more prom- inant as they went forward until a short distance behind its trunk; they were about three inches high.
