Aug. 14 - 1874 267 Aug. 14 Cloudy & Rain in C. M. Off after breakfast later with Stone path. We both had most execrable luck missing loosing our birds, &c. I took wild H, S. aurora, 2. P. purpureus l y y &, Cantopres borclis 1 adult. After dinner shot a S. Phil. in the Abbott's garden. It was very tame allowing me to approach within six feet. It had no addition to the sharp wren Brush chip (described under Aug. 13) a faint Dendrocinum chirp. On the edge of the Stone farm I heard a Mr. crinietus very distinctly & S. saw the bird perched on th top of a tall white pine. In P. M. strolled out for birds and lounged about the house. Aug. 15 Clear cool and a fine day, with that crystal charm in the air characteristic of Oct weather. After breakfast S & I with Leonard Sargent as guide, took a team & driving fore to the Cross place started on for a days fishing at "the Shiner". The distance is 4 miles.
