I was attracted to it by its laugh which was very like that of Colaptes but lower rather louder and ending in a slight tremolo: it might be readily mistaken for the song of that bird indeed I am conscious of having heard it near the house (a few days since) when at most I only suspected it real author, Mr. S. Phil. I shot on the wood path. It is a more deliberate bird than its prototype; I think does not jerk it tail at all: its chirp which I heard distinctly was almost precisely similar to that of Starus nori. Dmis. juniperinus is still with us; I saw a large flock in the pasture to day. Chordils still booms anody, & earning d of the Swallows only H. ricola is gone.
