92 Fri. mrs. forced us to leave considerable pumicean and lichen on the glacier. Friday Feb 20 - '14 In brilliant weather proceeded from the top of the glacier to its descent on the west side. Then turned North and reached the foot of glacier facing a broad flat opening on Bay Birdx. Built Igloo on glacier. Day - 46°. Sat Feb 21 - '14 Had great difficulty in lowering everything over the foot of glacier. Carried about 5 miles down the flat. Saw quite many musk-ox herds. E! It gets his first four days up, & it has been getting worse. Jack says that he must go back tomorrow. We have only 11 gallons oil and I am to return for more. Day - 54°. Sat Feb 22 - '14 Clear and cold, He killed 5 musk-ox on the hill facing our camp, while one & himself over. The others went hunting but got nothing. Spent day skinning & cutting up meat. Fox + men lost big feed. Day - 53°.
