Cape York Friday Aug 10, 1912. At 10:00 last night the fog suddenly lifted and then lay Greenland before our eyes -- a band in the smoky gold and cruelly beautiful. The rich ice cliffs leaned back, tracing the ice cap into the eastern sky. We were just off the Devil's Thumb rising 2 or 3 feet. At least it seemed
