32 August 16 North Star Bay to 1st North. North Star Bay Saturday Aug 16 - 1913 I am 25 years old today. Opened various letters from me to be read on that day. At 1:30 am we entered Wootubolome Sound picking our way through the jam ice. About 2:45 am we anchored in North Star Bay. A heavy fog hid the country from us, but we made out a boat on its way to- wards the ship. Soon two half breed missionaries arrived and exchanged news with us. This ship was long overdue and more had come for two years. We lowered the whale boat - join- ing the expedition - and went in to call. We found two small frame houses, and about twenty natives, men women & children. Panditch and Singhito, two of George's old men were here with their families. Alnech, wife of Etakeshuke told me he was hunting but would return soon. She seemed to feel it all right when I asked her to come with me, to break down the tupik & carry every- things aboard, probably realizing that Etakeshuke would not miss the chance.
