An American ship was on its way north (Lucky Scott expedition) but got stuck in the ice in South Greenland and failed to reach New York. Rasmussen did not come as his brother has just died. The news found to be very lively ranging from war with 5 fusics to looping - the loop with aeroplanes. No one from received bad tidings from home. A a several days afterward the full of our first mail in so many months was unbidden. The little auks are all gone excepting a few young ones. Monday Aug 31 - 1914 Same days ago Hal was wiring a lamp for his microscope but already we find it almost necessary in the evenings especially when it is cloudy. The sun out for the first time on Sunday the 23rd but the dark comes rapidly my here. Tuesday Sept 1 - 1914 I have commenced my summer work towards Sunrise Point.
