Friday May 1 - '14.
We tried Tenrie before we got away. A bull in the storm was always followed by wind--
now or then.
I refused to go south or stay here. I
was afraid to follow as I had no dogs or sledge.
We got away finally at 2 o' am. In a
little while it was a bad s am. I could
not ride as my feet were very wet & animal
furs seemed to be useless.
We were going over frozen ice & I
kept whipping my thin dogs. I told him that I
could not keep up & he advised me to follow
his trail. This was impossible.
I then snatched the rifle from the chest
& wounded him to keep behind me. A few
minutes later I turned & saw him whipping up
the dogs away from me.
I shot once in the air. He did not stop.
Ithen killed him with a shot through the shoulder
& another thru the heart.
I had trouble finding the rifles at the
camp.
Saturday May 2 - '14.
The storm abated considerably & I went
out to play's cabin. I photographed it upon our
morning record. I left a copy of Beauty's word
