got brighter as clouds thinned & scattered, but still cold & windy. Found excellent walking on Caribou trail just south of ridge & saw one young caribou, who started running when he saw me, even though upwind- and a very strong q cred wind, too. Half expected to hear plane coming in today because of a remark Max made about a "social call," but with ice breaker in at Barrow & with planes undoubtedly behind schedule because of bad weather, Max is well tired up. will go out on "east ridge" tomorrow & to Pilly Fork of Naska River (USGS map, 1956 Ed. Wiseheart Mountain Quadrangle).
