we remained in camp today
and amused ourselves with
small manual works.
The day was absolutely clear
all day, the first we have
had without fog. A heavy
hoar frost + ice on standing
water met our sight at daybreak.
I caught another long tailed
shrew, thrany birds, + the
2 species of Apodelemae. The
village hunter went out with
a 3 harnelled green & searched
for the lost dog, he found it
dead killed by a coyote where
we last heard the dog bark.
The other dog returned to the
camp at night. These poor
hunters depend wholly on
their dogs when hunting.
They shout constantly to them
& roam the whole country,
they pay no attention to
the wind either. The dogs
draw the game or lower it, &
they shoot the animals at very
