from my pocket. Fortunate not to lose [49] it altogether. Wrote up yesterdays notes and cared for specimens. 10 August, Thursday. Clear in early morning but cloud, y at 8 o'clock and thick fog came in or settled down by 9:30 The fog lessened by 11 o'clock and dis- appeared after noon. Wind at 8a. S.W. 1-2 but N.E. 2 at noon and light variable after noon, Calm evening, Temp. 8a. 36½°; 12m. 34°; 4p. 37½°; 8p. 35°. Ice formed last night in hail beside house door. Autumn has begun in earnest. Ext Koch have gone up the fjord in canoe this evening - No ship yet!
