11 August. Friday. 50
Overcast and calm at 8a. Began rowing lightly at 9a, but stopped before 11a.
Cleared off beautifully betw. 2 & 3 p. m.
Light puffs of wind occasionally in afternoon from S and S.W.
Temp. 8a. 37 1/2; 12m. 38 1/2; 4p. 36 1/2; 8p. 35 1/2
My day on as cook. Out in canoe with Etk & Innahsok after water from brook.
In early afternoon went over to tupies and photographed Dostenholme Sound to show thickness of assemblage of bogs and fragments and pans of ice.
Splitting of bogs makes noise like rifle shot. Later went out in canoe with Etk & Innahsok, going across bay to cliffs on south side where we collected specimens of cal-cite and aragonite(?) seams from the shaley beds of the Huronian zone hundreds of feet below the diabase cap.
