1965 SIC #8 small whale, probably dark fish. About 50. Large feeding flock of 36 ST, 20 WT . late afternoon. collected min BFB w/land from Janis dr. Most of WTS seen now are dark phase. Bird sightings are increasing in frequency as we near 9 N lat. Present position 10 N lat @ 1800 hrs. Finished packing personal bag, charging batteries for new lights. 15 May. Bridge watch all day. Few birds seen. 16 May. Overcast most of day. Large number of birds present. Water too rough for raft. Increase in #'s of birds around 10 N. 17 May. Large number of Sooty Shearwaters seen singly all day. Appear to be feeding, not migrating as when seen on previous trips. Collected 8. Saw 2 Pale faced S. - white bill & face very distinct. 18 May. Began organizing gear for landing on Howland.
