April 13 continued - 12-mile Swamp: Mourning Dove - just one flew over Horned Larks - a pair chasing each other over east field. Violet-green Swallows - quite a few over swamp area, many feeding quite high. Cliff Swallows - only a couple seen. W. Crows - several flew over south end. Bush Tits - in brush at north enc, below island. Tule Wrens - scolding and singing over most of the swamp area, but with a particular concentration to the north of the north island, west of the beaver dam. Seemed to be at least one bird to every clump-area of sedge. Many old nests found, and one newly constructed one also found in Carex oregonensis at about 2 1/2 feet. Audubon Warbler - just a couple of singular notes heard from ash area. Pacific Yellowthroat - Dave and I both heard it in the west side ash-oak area at 5 p.m. W. Meadowlarks singing from the ground and various perches in fields nearby. NW Redwings - many present, and well-scattered over swamp area, but not a single nest was found under construction, or completed. Brewer Blackbirds - in marshy field along east side - 25 or 30 of them. Savannah Sparrows - a small flock at RR crossing, feeding in gravel area, others in Carex clumps and Daucus field along east side of swamp. White-crowned Sparrows - still some in fence rows, etc. A couple of songs heard. Song Sparrow - in brush, and one dusting in gravel road. Apr 16/48 - 7 a.m. - Corvallis Lackling Grebe flying north - about 75 seen. Chipping Sps - Several around to day - only one seen before.
