Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands
Nov. 7. I joined Larry & Roger Shinnig,
did a Common Hawaiian Noddy, with
results more typical than yesterday's.
Sooty. Now I hate bloody birds!
The second mate finally arrived.
We departed Kwajalein Atoll about
4 P.M. Hooray!
Nov 10. George: I had early watch. After
this I tackled another Noddy, with
regrettable results.
We arrived at Jaluit Atoll
in mid-afternoon and anchored in
the lagoon opposite the main island.
Two small craft came out to
meet us. One carried Father Domahue,
the priest for the atoll. Binion talked
with him while we got gear ready
for another assault.
We left in two parties about
3 P.M. Roger, Phil, Dave & I went
on to Kalkinabu Island after dropping
George & Larry at Wright's Rubbenock.
There we set out the traps (insect
& rat), collected plants (29 species)
and birds, including one completely
new form - all white below and on
neck and forehead; black crown
and nape, very light gray mantle.
