Opening 4' x 5'; 20 sq.ft.
Temperature 63 feet from
opening 48°F.
Five bats were observed and
left undisturbed - 4 myotis - 1 corynorhine.
One Corynorhinus and one
myotis were hanging loosely
on the ceiling 63 ft from
the entrance -- temperature
of 48° F was taken at this
point.
The second Myotis was hanging
loosely from the ceiling near the
back of the tunnel.
Two other Myotis were found
wedged closely behind a thin
slab of rock jutting out from
the ceiling so as to leave a
crack about ½ in in width.
There were about 100 ft from the
entrance.
New rat nests were noted on
the floor of this mine but no
rats seen.
This is the first time that I
recall seeing Myotis hanging
loosely on the ceiling of mines.
