Made trip to three old mine tunnels east of highway
one mile south of Poatneff.
Twelve inches snow on ground.
Outside temperature 25° F.
Time of day 2 P.M.
Weather - cloudy.
Tunnel # 1.
108 ft. deep. - Boarded up
to prevent caving the entire
length.
Temperature at back of mine
29 degrees F.
Rack rats could be heard behind
walled sides of mine.
No bats.
Tunnel # 2.
75 ft deep. Temperature at
back of mine 43° F. - Outside 25° F.
No bats found.
One large rat was seen - it
retreated into a crevice in
the side of the mine. This
mine was not timbered at
all. Opening at entrance -
5 square feet.
