Found a dead ~5 year old ewe. Saw ram running along wash bank, stopped to watch it. Bob Winkler spotted corpse of ewe at or near place where lamb started. It was at the bottom of a rocky 10 foot embankment. Redfooted blood was coming from nose and mouth. No external injuries visible, no obvious broken bones. Limbs and neck were soft and flexible. She was somewhat bloated and beginning to smell, attracting some flies and a sexton beetle. Reported this to C. Douglas, who reported it to Pete Sanchez, who said that another dead animal with similar appearance had been found recently in another part of the movement. I suspected pneumonia as cause of death. Pete concurred. Kathy Hamilton reported much coupling among sheep at Quartz Spring this weekend.
