P.A.Kelly 1984 Journal July 9 Killarney National Park, Co.Kerry, Ireland. Cally and I met JSF at UCG at 9am. We loaded the Zoology Dept Van with traps, bait and field gear. I've got the use of the van for 3 days but it will cost me 10p/mile. It took us about 34 hours to drive to Killarney. On arrival we checked in with the Park Manager in Huckeross House. lot of heavy rain and continuous drizzle throughout the day, so Cally & I opted for Bed & Breakfast (£6/person/day) instead of camping. JSF was not about to rough it regardless. We laid 30 traps in Bracken & Bramble near the Drive way from the Kenmare Rd to Huckeross House. We laid the remaining 117 traps in Ross 'Island' west of the castle. The 'island' had high vole numbers on previous trips by JSF. In the evening Cally & I got a substantial meal for £3.30 in the Stella Cafe, and afterward, tried the Guinness & Stag Cider in Danny Harris. July 10 JSF called round for us (Sweetman's B&B) at 9.30am and we started checking traps. Again we spent the day trying to keep dry in the continuous drizzle. We were apalled at our low trap success only 2 Voles from 117 traps on the 'Island' and 4 Voles from 30 traps along the Huckeross House Driveway. We decided to relocate some trap,
