P.A. Kelley 1984 Journal Fieldtrip to Ireland 30 Cally & I flew out from S.F.O. around 11am headed for Shannon Ireland, via JFK New York. JFK however got flooded out after 5" rain in 9 hours and was closed down for 12 hrs. We were diverted to Newark, where we waited in line 4½ hrs to see a TWA official. Around 2 am all remaining Aer Lingus passengers were put on a coach to JFK. At JFK there was no more room on the one Aer Lingus flight to Shannon, so they (A.R.) put us on a Kuwait Boeing 747 for London. At London we transferred to an A.R. flight for Dublin where we transferred finally to the A.R. Jumbo for New York which dropped us off in Shannon. Over a period of 30 hrs we were at 6 different airports and on 4 different planes, instead of 3 and 2 respectively. Fares, $802 round trip each. July 3 Converted our Travelers Cheques to Irish Pounds and lodged with the Trustee Savings Banks in Galway. The US Dollar was at an all time high against the Irish Pound, IR£1.00 = US$1.13, so the remainder of my $350 Alexander Grant-in-Aid $328 converted to IR£ 290.265. Called up to see James Fairley (JSF) in the Zoology Dept. at Univ. College Galway (UCG). He arranged lab space and keys for me over the coming 2 months. Also got liquid Nitrogen from the UCG Physics Dept..
