P.A. Kelly 1984 Journal Richmond Field Station, 47th St. & Hoffman Blvd. Richmond, Contra Costa Co., California Jan. 17 Left M.V.Z. at 8.30am with Maria Alicia Barros and drove to the Richmond Field Station. After turning left inside the station we found a lot of gopher sign in a patch of grassland between the Eucalyptus grove and some buildings. Although the day was bright and sunny, the soil was very wet and sticky. We laid all our 16 live gopher traps by 10.30am and we checked them periodically for the next 3 hours. We only got two (MAB. 77 and 78) but one of those was an exceptionally large male. Although we only caught two, many traps were heavily plugged with wet soil, and we might have had better success if we checked and unclogged them more frequently.
