P.A. Kelly 1988 Journal Mon. Dec 19 Jim + Carol Patton and Maria da Silva arrived at Hastings around 9.30pm to help w. trapping and School Hill Rat House mapping tomorrow. Tues. Dec 20 0618 Started checking traps with Sooji. Caught O>1799-1800 at H.3A (Rose clump near the Y), he was at H.50 at Halloween. Another O> (1687-88) at the Sycamore H22 (2A) had really extensive fur dunge on his rump - all gray only underfur was visible - no winds though. located one of the missing maturarchs (F 2250). She has moved from H.50 up- and across - creek to H.45. She also had a little fur dunge on her rump. We also caught a new O> (1668-69) in the old fallen live Oak debris inside the gate by Blow Knoll, 43 rats at 41 H22s, double captures. 76.85% Trapping Success, Caught Mid morning, Jim, Carol, Maria, Sooji and I mapped H2es 301 - 327 accurately. Hastings School Hill Live Oak Woodland S. End of Gate Field J. We want to do a Nearest Neighbor Analysis to see if rats houses are clumped or dispersed randomly there's suitable habitat. In the afternoon, Jim, Maria and I set pairs of traps at H2es 101A - 140 & 201-209A. Started raining heavily. lets hope the trap shelters keep the rats warm + dry. Rained heavily all evening. Sooji put up a nice S. Beecheyi (road hill) with our collective assistance.
