We were too exhausted to return to Sagehen and cook dinner, so we settled for enchiladas and refreshing margaritas in town.
Sun. Got up at 5 a.m. and checked my Sagehen Basin locations. I captured an untagged lactating adult ♀ (#1919-20, 291g) at the U.Sp... We also caught a jinx ♂ (#1918-17, 171g) but unfortunately he had his head caught in the trap and was in very poor shape. Nevertheless we tagged him and took him back to the lab for observation.
We caught no woodrats at either the L.Sp. or at the Rockslide.
I might add at this stage that my object ives on this trip were to see how many of my tagged animals remained and to tag new individuals. Felisa wanted bushy-tails as part of nutritional ecology study (fibre-digestion) spanning the size range of all Neotoma (i.e. small N. leucida to large N. cinerea).
Along the Truckee River we only captured a single large ad. ♂ (#419, Felisa's #449) despite setting 25 traps over a fairly large area.
Felisa wanted to bring back 12-15 bushy-tail to Iewins - that didn't look likely at this stage.
