P.A. Kelly 1988 Journal disarticulated. Mark Stambaugh told me he has seen a lion in this area (Long Field + Lane) no less than three times over the past few weeks. On one of those occasions, he actually heard a deer scream in the afternoon and investigated to find the lion running away from a dying young fawn somewhere around H.87 or H.90. I didn't find any trace of the fawn. He said it's mother was very distressed and faced around on the W. side of the creek watching her offspring (and the lion presumably) in the creek below. I wonder if these 2 bills and the other sightings (Mark's) belong to the same lion I watched on Haystack Hill on April 13th? Or, do they belong to the larger lion that left tracks on Martin Rd. a few days later? Early evening I set traps from H.11-56. Thurs. 0400pST: Again, I had great trap success, May 12 but I only caught ? 15/19-20 at H16 - No young. Evening: Set traps from H.100C - 127A. Fri. 0400pST: lots of rats again, inc. more May 13 new ones. Headed back to Berkeley by mid-morning.
