P.A. Kelly 1988 Journal Tues. Hastings Natural History Reservation, Carmel Valley Apr. 12 Monterey Co., California. Left Berkeley at 1 p.m., arr Hastings, after a detour to Monterey for supplies, at 5 p.m. (ie 1600 P.S.T.) 1805 PST: Started setting traps in the 80s + 90's. I am picking up a lot of ticks off the veg. - some fleas too. I should get some of those ticks tested for Lyme Disease. Now a problem in N. California. Found a new small house in the brambles about 15' downstream from H.90. Both houses are linked by trails through the grass - prob. still occupied by D/150s. 2110 PST: Weighed F 1519-20 + 3 youngsters in the lab., - 29g, 29g + 32g.. They are now 15 days old, and all have their eyes open - especially the largest one. I still cannot sex them for sure. They all look the same - possibly all F. Gave all 3 a left ear tag to match the previous tag (171429g-17, 171529g-18, 171632g-19) 2124 PST: H. 11, captured D/ 1607-09. Want to dust him with pig. to see if he will transfer it to F 1519 and her 3 young. He escaped but I caft. lim again at 2328 + dusted him with Red pigment. I also trapped H. 16 (F 1519's house) but nothing had moved in. Will release all 4 tomorrow evening.
