P.A.Kelly 1988 Journal Mar.27 hobbled away on 3 legs when I (cont.) released him at H.69. 0659 PST: H.136, ? 1591-92 lact even though only a 183g subad. 0704 PST: H.62, ? 1465-66 lost 4" tail skin in the trap door. Decided to keep the skin as a tissue sample. May be useful for DNA extraction. Actually, I could have been collecting those lost tail-skins for tissue all along. In the afternoon I walked up Haystack beneath the powerline in search of more owl pellets. No such luck, however. I did find a med-sized Gopher snake near the top. I then set traps from the Y to House 41. I actually captured ? 1607-09 at H.11 by 1830 PST.. I captured a lact. ? rat in the attic of the RedHse but I let her go without tagging her. Went to bed early but I woke to the sound of running rats + tail scattling (Her.) Mar.28 over my head at 0400 PST. Got up at 0430 and headed down the long Field. It was quite cold (30°F) by comparison with the past few nights. 0518 PST: H.25, Caught ? 1182-83 in the same trap with a juv. ? (1663-64, 81g) and there was another juv ? (1665-66, 79g) in the other trap.
