P.A. Kelly 1988 Journal Sun also coincided with the calling of the Great Feb. 21 (Cor.) Horned Owls. I wonder if this is mere coincidence? 0700 Also saw one group of 18 deer half way up on Haystack Hill near Noyce Ranch Fence, also saw 5 more deer descend to Blom Pond from the Noyce side. Some of the 18 were chasing each other. 1130 am. Leaving Hastings for Berkeley, saw a sharp-shinned hawk (♂) fly into the trees on School Hill (near H.301) with a ♀ Robin. Hastings, Nat. Hist. Res., Carmel Valley, Monterey Co, California Thurs. Mar. 10 Left Berkeley around 2.30 p.m. for Hastings with Jeff Groth. Jeff drove his Toyota 4WD Pickup Truck. He is coming to Hastings, for the 1st time, to try and make some recordings of tail- crattling and of squealing by juveniles. Also if we have time we might try to locate the Gt. Horned Owl nest (or the Arnold?). We arrived at Hastings at c. 6pm and we immedi- ately set pairs of traps at H2es 64, 62, 61, 56, 51+50. We didn't have to worry about dinner since we stopped in Salinas for supplies and great chili verde burritos at Rosita's Armory Cafe. Next time, we'll stop at the Revancha Cafe in the Mexican district off Main St. 7-8pm I showed Jeff around the Res. and we called over to see Mark Reynolds + Shorty on the Robertson Place.
