P.A. Kelly 1987 Journal Sat. 0500 Started checking and closing traps. Not Dec. 19 nearly as cold as last night (44-48° F), due to heavy cloud cover no doubt. I trapped at 27 houses in all and captured only 15 wood rats (6 ♂, 9 ♀). I collected fecal pellets from 14 of them. I had another lactating ♀ (1453-54 at H. 103A), like ♀ 1465-66 (at H. 62), is only 8 months old. I captured ♀1323-25 at H. 120; the last time I saw this rat was at her first capture on Jan 15, 1987 at H. 201. I captured ♂ 1469-73 at H. 117; last captured 6 months ago at H. 126. Where have ♀1323 and ♂ 1469 been in the interim? 1500-1700 PST. Set traps in the upper long field and for various missing rats. I even caught ♀1387 at H64 before I was through trapping. Harh (Reynolds) and Shorty came around to the Red Hze with a big bowl of Egg Nog. Ribble, Stanback and I imbibed too much too long. 2300 Started checking traps. Caught 4 more new individuals. Got to bed c. 2:30 am. Sun. 1000 PST closed the few traps I had left Dec. 20 open in the Spider Tree and at H22, 15, 16, 69 & 138. Loaded up trucks and headed back to Berkeley by 1300PST.
